Balancing Humidity In Your Home

Balancing Humidity In Your Home
|

Are you having troubles maintaining the proper humidity level in your home? We’re sorry for that! Moisture level changes along with changing seasons. We cannot prevent such things, but there are some tricks to balance humidity in your home. Air temperature and climate cause humidity to change. Our defense lies in our home’s design, insulation, and vapor controllers. The device used to measure humidity level is called hygrometer. Getting the accurate measure will help you determine what must be done to bring back proper humidity. Here are some tricks that you can use to balance humidity in your home.

1. Use humidifiers when humidity is low

If the moisture is too low, humidifiers are the quick solution. This happens most of the time during cold seasons. Make sure to size your humidifiers correctly for the room that you’ll need it for. Too large humidifiers will bring excess moisture in your home. You can use a whole house humidifier or a portable one- either of the two will help you balance humidity inside.

2. Allow for water evaporation

You can also use your plants to increase humidity in your home. Bring them in when moisture drops because they perform evaporation process and can help increase moisture in the air. You can also leave wet towels and clothes to dry inside.

3. Use dehumidifiers when moisture is high

If humidity is too high, which happens mostly on summer season, a dehumidifier can help you control the moisture level. Turn off the humidifier in your system and use dehumidifier to lower the humidity. Before buying one, make sure to know the size of your room and the level of dampness inside. This will lead you to the product fit for your home.

4. Use exhaust fans and open windows

You can make use of exhaust fan, though it is a bit more expensive option. You can put it in your basement, kitchen or in your laundry room. If the situation is already severe, combine dehumidifiers and exhaust fan to keep proper humidity.

5. Change routines

Changing your routine can also help balancing humidity. If the moisture is too high, take shorter showers, cover pots when cooking to prevent water evaporation and hang clothes outside. You can control humidity by introducing lesser water as possible in the home. You know how important proper humidity is. Call an HVAC professional for more suggestions in maintaining the right level of humidity in your home.
